Iran, Tajikistan pledge to enhance cooperation in water, soil sectors

(MENAFN) Officials from Iran and Tajikistan have underscored the importance of bolstering bilateral cooperation in the fields of water and soil management. Safdar Niyazi Shahraki, Iran’s Deputy Agriculture Minister for Water and Soil Affairs, led a delegation in discussions with members of the Tajikistan Water and Soil Authority, aiming to explore avenues for collaboration in these critical areas, as reported by Mehr news agency.

During the meeting, Iranian officials highlighted the significant potentials and capabilities of Iranian companies in manufacturing irrigation parts and equipment, as well as offering technical and engineering services. They emphasized the opportunity for mutually beneficial partnerships between the two nations in addressing common challenges related to water and soil management.

Earlier in May, a delegation of businessmen and producers from Tajikistan visited Iran's House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT), where they expressed admiration for Iranian knowledge-based products. Attending the Iran Expo 2024 exhibition in Tehran, the Tajik delegation lauded the quality of Iranian products, noting their compatibility with Tajikistan's agricultural conditions.

With over 70 percent of Tajikistan's workforce engaged in agriculture, the delegation highlighted the need for modernization and improvement in agricultural practices. They emphasized that the worn-out tools and lack of modern equipment have hindered agricultural productivity in Tajikistan, presenting an opportunity for cooperation with Iran in providing agricultural tools and machinery.

The Tajik delegation identified Tajikistan as a promising market for Iranian agricultural products and machinery, underscoring their intent to deepen collaboration with Iran to leverage Iran's achievements and introduce Iranian-made products and industrial capabilities to Tajikistan.

The discussions between Iranian and Tajikistani officials signify a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and leveraging each other's strengths to address common challenges and enhance mutual prosperity.
