Erdogan: Ukraine ‘deserves’ to become part of NATO
(MENAFN) Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that Ukraine “deserves” to become a part of NATO. He was talking at a combined media meeting following his meeting with Ukrainian Leader Vladimir Zelensky in Istanbul on Saturday, as well as ahead of a great NATO conference in Lithuania the upcoming week.
“There is no doubt that Ukraine deserves membership of NATO,” Erdogan he informed journalists, also noting that Ankara had displayed “solidarity” with Kiev and gave “concrete assistance.”
Zelensky stated he was “pleased” to know of Erdogan’s backing, also noting that he “raised the issue of Ukraine’s invitation to NATO” throughout their assembly.
The Turkish president also asked Moscow as well as Kiev to “return to peace efforts.” He stated that Türkiye had conducted the “most intense efforts” to try and put an end to the conflict in 2022 after facilitating peace disscutions, though the debates eventually failed. “A fair peace creates no losers,” he stated.
