US conducts talks with Russia to ensure prisoners` release
(MENAFN) American as well as Russian representatives are conducting dissections regarding probable convict exchanges, United States National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan informed reporters on Friday. The list of applicants for trade contains a news agency journalist Evan Gershkovich, he also noted.
The discussions have not given any concrete outcomes so far, the senior White House representative stated, also noting that he did not want to imply “false hope.”
Gershkovich was detained in Russia in the last days of March on espionage accusations and stayed in detention ever since. In May, a Russian court elongated his detention up until August 30.
“There have been discussions, but those discussions have not produced a clear pathway to a resolution,” Sullivan stated, when questioned regarding Gershkovich’s case. He also added that the United States had no “clear answer” on how to ensure the reporter`s freedom.
