Local Administration Ministry Unveils Participatory Gender Audit Report

Amman, Mar. 28 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Local Administration on Tuesday released the results of its Canadian-funded participatory gender audit, a tool used for assessing progress towards gender equality.
The objectives of the audit include assessing the extent to which the gender perspective is integrated into the policies, strategies, initiatives, documents, and budgets of the ministry, documenting good practices and identifying areas for improvement in the efforts to mainstream the perspective of social cooperation to achieve gender justice in the ministry and build institutional commitment, in addition to building a baseline for the ministry's development on gender issues.
During a workshop, Secretary-General of the ministry Hussein Muhaidat underlined its commitment to enhancing legislative response to achieve justice and equal opportunities for both genders in line with the international agreements that Jordan has committed to with the aim of promoting equality and preventing gender-based discrimination among employees.
He pointed out that the launch of the report, which was conducted in cooperation with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Jordan Municipal Support Project, was a culmination of efforts aimed at reducing the gender gap in the ministry.
Director of the Jordan Municipal Support Project Gaby Senay stressed the importance of cooperation with the ministry on several issues and projects aimed at improving the work environment, pointing out that the participatory gender audit aims to achieve gender justice at work and provide equal opportunities for all.
