The aircraft braking system is generally used to slow the aircraft down during the landing roll on the runway. It is a necessary component to ensure the safety and directional control of an aircraft during ground operations such as taxiing, landing and takeoff. The carbon aircraft brake with discs is common in small and light aircraft. A non-rotating caliper is bolted to the landing gear shaft, helping to apply the brakes during friction on either side of the discs. However, the single disc proves to be inept at applying the brakes. Previously, disc brakes were used on aircraft that consisted of a disc rotating with the wheel assembly, while when applying the brakes, a stationary caliper resisted rotation causing friction against the disc. However, due to the introduction of new technologies and innovations, the electric braking system has become more popular. This carbon brake system provides anti-skid protection and fully integrated brake control, including parking and emergency brake functions by fusing control-by-wire technology with electromechanical brake activation. As such, two discs are bolted to the wheel on carbon aircraft brakes with dual discs that wrap around a center bracket between the discs. The presence of linings on both sides makes contact with all of the discs during brake use, allowing for safer braking, making dual disc carbon aircraft brakes well suited for large and heavy aircraft. In addition, the increase in the demand for air passengers has led to an increase in the demand for aircraft, which fuels the growth of the market for carbon brake discs for aircraft.
