Abdul Wahid, Victim Of Past War, Wishes Nationwide Stability

BAMYAN (Pajhwok): Abdul Wahid, a 45-year-old resident of central Bamyan province, who lost one leg and one eye in the past wars, wishes nationwide stability.

Wahid spent much of his lifetime in the wars and lack of peace and now he wishes that no mother witnesses the grief of her children anymore and the children of this country are not deprived of the love and care of their fathers.

The disabled Wahid currently lives in Zargran area of Bamyan city in a house against 1,000 afghanis rent per month.

About 23 years ago, his parents wanted to organize his wedding to experience the joy and happiness of their only son, but the conflict in the country shattered their dreams.

“On that fateful day, I was working with my father in farmland when a terrible and heartbreaking sound clogged my ears and turned the bright day into night before my eyes, after hours when I came to senses I was on the hospital bed, my parents were hiding their cries from me with strange looks, then I realized my one leg is amputated and my right eye is blind.”

He added the moment was a bitter experience that he had never experienced in his entire life. The fleeing of fear and despair covered his entire being, though it was hard for him to bear it, but after he realized that he is a disabled person and will live without a leg and an eye.

After all the problems and difficulties, he is now a peddler and ekes out a living through that.

He also receives his disability allowance, which is 5,000 afghanis per month, from the Martyrs and Disables Department.

Wahid said one of his dreams was to get married and experience being a father, but reaching 45 years of age, he has been unable to marry due to his disability and economic poverty.

He hoped that one day he would achieve his dream and start a family.

Millions of people have become disabled as a result previous conflicts in the country and they are a burden on the society today.
