Tremor hit near coast of Italian beach resort Fano

(MENAFN) A 5.7 magnitude tremor hit near the coast of Italian beach resort Fano on Wednesday, shaking many cities, counting Rome.

The earthquake happened at a depth of 7 kilometers, about 28km north-east of the town, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) made an announcement.

It was followed by two earthquakes of 3.1 and 3.4 magnitude at around 7 AM local time.

The earthquake resulted in no serious damage or wounds, based on initial documents. But cracks have reportedly been witnessed in buildings.

“No injuries at the moment,” a spokesman for Italy's Civil Protection informed Reuters, as the agency shared a tweet that checks on the ground were carrying on.

The main earthquake was reportedly felt in northern Italy in Bologna, Romagna and Rome, in addition to other states including Croatia and San Marino.

“Shaking was felt over 300km by approximately 16 million people in Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Vatican,” EMSC said on Twitter.
