Warsaw is suing Russia for WWII reparations

(MENAFN) According to the Polish Foreign Ministry, Warsaw aims to quantify losses suffered by the USSR during World War II in a procedure similar to that which preceded a demand for reimbursement from Germany.

The study endeavor was noted in a Friday statement that included a breakdown of Polish accusations that were formally forwarded to Berlin earlier this month.

Senior Polish officials have previously urged that both Russia and Germany should compensate Poland, with President Andrzej Duda making the case in an interview last month.

“Germany started World War II and attacked Poland. Of course, Russia joined this war later on and so, in my view, we should demand reparations also from Russia,” he stated. “I don’t see any reasons why we shouldn’t demand this.”

The concept is not new to Polish right lawmakers. When addressing Polish claims against Berlin, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the head of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, warned the German tabloid Bild in 2020 that "Russia will also have to pay." He said he didn't anticipate money from Moscow anytime soon, but that Warsaw's resentment had "no expiration date."
