(MENAFN) Russia has officially called for the United Nations Security Council to stop Ukraine from damaging the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam in Kherson Region.
A crisis like this might kill thousands of citizens, Moscow’s diplomat to the UN cautioned on Friday.
Addressing at a Security Council briefing, Vassily Nebenzia said that as the West wants to ignore “any criminal acts” done by Ukraine, the nation was “consistently conducting strikes on civilian infrastructure in its former territories”, as well as the town of Novaya Kakhovka in Kherson Region, which was lately incorporated into Russia.
As said by the representative, most of the missiles are being sent from US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
“Ukrainian forces are aiming at the Kakhovskaya dam in order to break it, causing the water level to rise and the adjacent areas to flood,” the diplomat added.
Nebenzia further cautioned, “thousands of civilians may be killed, and thousands of homes damaged.”
