Putin predicts good crop for Russia

(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin predicted on Tuesday that Russia is going to have its biggest grain harvest ever this year, citing early agricultural statistics.

Putin claimed that the range of earlier estimations was between 140 million and 147 million tons, “according to experts, the total grain harvest could reach 150 million tons, including about 100 million tons of wheat. This will be a record in the entire history of Russia.”

The president remembered that Russia's largest grain crop, totaling 135.5 million tons, including 86 million tons of wheat, was harvested five years ago.

Putin also mentioned, “thus, in the current difficult situation, we are completely guaranteed to cover our own needs for the most important items and receive an additional resource for increasing exports.”

According to statistics, 138.7 million tons of grain have been harvested so far the current year, about a third higher than at the same period last year.
