Bitcoin drops below USD20,000 by 1.54 percent once more


(MENAFN) After losing USD310 from its previous closing, Bitcoin fell from the 20,000-dollar threshold on Sunday, falling 1.54 percent to hit USD19, 804.

The largest and most well-known cryptocurrency in the world is down 58.9 percent from its year-high of USD48,234 reached on March 28.

The Ethereum blockchain network's native currency, ether, fell by 3.2 percent to reach USD1,422.1 on Sunday, shedding USD47 from its previous closing.

The Biden administration is taking a step toward creating the "digital dollar," a central bank digital currency as well as claims that doing so is going to strengthen the United States' position as a global financial system leader.

The White House announced on Friday that nine reports covering cryptocurrency's effects on financial markets, the environment, innovation, and other aspects of the economic system were produced after President Joe Biden issued an executive order in March directing various agencies to consider ways to regulate digital assets.
