Latvian presidency website stops Russian language service

(MENAFN) The website of the Latvian Presidency stopped its Russian language service on Thursday in a show of support for Ukraine, as reported by the Latvian news portal DELFI.

All info on the official internet portal of www.president.lv will now be given "only in Latvian and English," according to Justine Deichmane, chief of the media center at the State Chancellery.

In line with Deichmane, the decision to provide information to an international audience exclusively in English was made because of the fact that "the issue of public administration communication in Russian has become very sensitive" in the wake of Russia's conflict in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, Latvian Leader Egils Levits called for the isolation of the Russian-speaking inhabitants of the Baltic nation, who oppose the political course of the state on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
