Flydubai Suspends Flights To Sri Lanka

Dubai : UAE based flydubai suspended flights to Colombo in Sri Lanka until further notice amid political unrest.
On July 11, a company spokesperson said, 'Flydubai flights between Dubai and Colombo Airport (CMB) have been suspended from July 10 until further notice.'
'We will continue to closely monitor the situation on the ground in Sri Lanka,' the spokesperson added.
The airline confirmed it would refund passengers who had booked their tickets on the cancelled flights.
Demonstrations in Sri Lanka reached new heights on July 9 as thousands of protestors stormed the Presidential Palace, prompting the resignations of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Given how costly and marginally inconvenient flight operations to Sri Lanka have inevitably become, it was no surprise that flydubai took the decision to suspend its flight operations. But it is the second carrier to do so, with TUI being the first.
Despite more advisories being issued by relevant authorities, not all airlines have been affected to the extent of having to suspend their flight operations to Sri Lanka. Emirates and Etihad Airways are planning to continue serving their respective routes as usual while closely monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka.
