AMMAN — The government is continuing with procedures to monitormarkets and prevent high prices through ensuring commitment to the price ceilings set by the Industry Ministry, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence BisherAl Khasawneh said on Monday.
During a Lower House session, Khasawneh said the law will be imposed on all those who increase prices, noting that fines issued by the Industry Ministry against violators include referral to the attorney general, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The prime minister also said that there are directives for administrative governors to combat any entity that increases prices, stressing that any citizen can report complaints on high prices to the Industry Ministry.
He also voiced the government's keenness to take all the necessary procedures to alleviate citizens' suffering from the economic repercussions that affect their living and economic conditions, especiallyfor people of limited-income.
Regarding some employees at the Jordan Customs Department who were referred to retirement, the premier said that a committee has been formed to look into the issue, noting that if the decision to refer them to retirement has violations, it will be rectified.
If rectifying the decision was not enough for the affected people, they can resort to court, Khasawneh said.
He also denied allegations about selling tourist sites in the Kingdom at the Karak Castle or anywhere else, noting that the government will offer investment opportunities under the law.
As for His Majesty King Abdullah's surgery to treat a thoracic herniated disc, Khasawneh said that the surgery is basic and His Majesty will be back in the Kingdom in a few days.
