UNHCR discloses number of Azerbaijani refugees provided with legal assistance before Second Karabakh War (PHOTO)

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) rendered legal assistance to more than 10,000 Azerbaijani refugees before the Second Karabakh War, Guido Ambroso, head of the Azerbaijani representative office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, said at an event dedicated to the publication of the 'Collection of International Instruments and Legal Texts Concerning Refugees and Others of Concern to UNHCR', Trend reports.

Ambroso stressed that besides the financial assistance, UNHCR rendered legal assistance to refugees from 1995 through 1997.

“UNHCR rendered legal assistance to more than 10,000 Azerbaijani refugees before the Second Karabakh War,” Ambroso added.“Moreover, UNHCR also rendered assistance to stateless people and people whose right to citizenship is under threat. Legal assistance was rendered to 221 stateless people from the late 1990s up till now. These people obtained citizenship and identity cards.”
