DOHA: Doha Marketing Services Company (Domasco), a member of the Al Futtaim Group and a leading player in the automobile industry in Qatar, has donated four Volvo Electric ride-on toy cars to Sidra Medicine, a specialised healthcare facility established by the Qatar Foundation for women, children, and young people in the country. Present at the handover ceremony were the Ambassador of Sweden to Qatar H E Anders Bengtcén, Managing Director of Domasco Volvo Jonathan Pollock and Chief Executive Officer at Sidra Medicine Dr. Barbro Fridén.

Domasco Volvo with its purpose of community development has partnered with Sidra Medicine to bring smiles to the children undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Ambassador Bengtcén commented:“I am pleased that the Embassy of Sweden in cooperation with Volvo can contribute to making the stay of young patients at Sidra Medicine a little more enjoyable. To contribute to putting smiles on the faces of children at Sidra Medicine is deeply rewarding”.

The Volvo ride-on cars handed over to Sidra Medicine are modelled to look like the Volvo S90 R-Design, with unique design features and body paint in Bursting Blue metallic. A start button, engine sound and working front and rear lights make the model toy cars even more realistic, just as much as the elaborated interior with several authentic details, a music player and a safety belt.

Pollock said:“Volvo has always believed in putting people first. Their three key innovation areas – connectivity, electrification and safety – gives them a clear focus on making people's life simpler, helping them reduce their impact on the planet and keeping themselves safe. It's with this philosophy here at Domasco Volvo Qatar that we wanted to also give something back to society. In this instance, we are pleased to bring joy to the children undergoing treatment at Sidra Medicine. We hope this little gesture helps them on their journey to recovery”.

Volvo Cars aims to provide customers with the 'Freedom to Move' in a personal, sustainable and safe way. By the middle of the decade, the company aims for half of its global sales to be fully electric cars, with the rest being hybrid, and to establish five million direct consumer relationships. Volvo Cars also aims for a 40 percent lower carbon footprint per car by 2025, and with the ambition to be a climate-neutral company by 2040.

In coming years, the company will launch several fully electric cars. Its current line up in Qatar includes Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles with fully electric vehicles being launched soon.

Sidra Medicines' Play Programming focuses on providing normalisation opportunities for children in the midst of scary and overwhelming medical experiences. The cars will be used at Sidra Medicine as a way for its young patients to move around different areas of the hospital.

Dr. Fridén said:“Child Play is a very important and unique part of our patient and family centred care programme at Sidra Medicine. We are one of the few hospitals in the region that focuses on child play and play therapy in educating our patients and preparing them for surgery, procedures or a hospital stay.

“On behalf of the clinical teams at Sidra Medicine, I would like to thank the Embassy of Sweden particularly the Swedish Ambassador to Qatar H E Anders Bengtcén and Domasco Volvo Cars Qatar for their contribution of the toy cars. The cars will help reduce anxiety in the children and allow them to feel in control as they drive themselves to different areas inside the hospital instead of being wheeled in. It is wonderful to see the community support in helping bring smiles to these brave young children's faces,” she added.
