U.S. monitoring Russia's unusual military activity near Ukraine

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The United States is aware of reports of unusual Russian military activity near the border with Ukraine and is closely monitoring the situation in the region, Elisabeth Rosenstock-Siller, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to the OSCE, has said.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, she said this at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna on Thursday. November 4.

"We are aware of public reports of unusual Russian military activity near Ukraine. I can't speak to Russian intentions, but we are monitoring the region closely, as we always do. As we have made clear in the past, any escalatory or aggressive actions would be of great concern to the United States. We continue to support de-escalation in the region and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine," Rosenstock-Siller said.

She recalled that Russia's aggression in Ukraine, now in its eighth year, has caused more than 13,000 deaths, tens of thousands of injuries, displaced 1.6 million people, and inflicted countless instances of damage to critical civilian infrastructure. "We call on Russia to cease its aggression, observe the ceasefire, implement its Minsk commitments and withdraw its forces from Ukraine's sovereign territory," she said.
