Iran Affirms Commitment to Peaceful Nuclear Program

(MENAFN) Iran is not pursuing nuclear arms, Iran’s deputy foreign minister stated on Tuesday, highlighting that Tehran is focused on achieving a peaceful nuclear agreement with the United States.

Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Strategic Forum, Saeed Khatibzadeh underscored that Tehran’s nuclear initiative is intended for peaceful purposes and relies on Iran’s own domestic capabilities.

“Nuclear weapons are not part of Iran’s program,” Khatibzadeh added. He also serves as the head of the Foreign Ministry’s Center for Public Diplomacy.

The senior diplomat criticized Washington for sending “contradictory messages about Iran’s nuclear negotiations through third parties.”

Khatibzadeh noted that any agreement with the US must align with the guidance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has consistently advocated dialogue based on mutual respect.

He stressed that Iran will not yield on issues related to its national security.

His statements arrive as Iran and the US remain deadlocked over restarting indirect nuclear talks, which were halted following Israeli attacks in mid-June.

The assault occurred just two days before the planned sixth round of Iran-US indirect nuclear negotiations, facilitated by Oman.

Iranian authorities have held the US responsible for the Israeli strikes, which triggered a 12-day conflict between the longtime adversaries, resulting in over 1,000 deaths in Iran, including high-ranking commanders.
