This is the third time battery electric cars have exceeded diesel during last two years.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) stated that fresh vehicle listings decreased by nearly a third.
The sector was impacted by the "pingdemic" of people quarantining and a constant chip shortage.
Last month, battery electric car listings again outpaced diesel vehicles, but listings of petrol cars far outpaced both.
