(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Twenty-three foreign funded development projects with an estimated cost of $2,618 million are underway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including merged tribal districts.
This was revealed during a progress meeting on foreign funded projects in Peshawar on Monday with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Umar Ayub, KP ministers Shaukat Yousafzai, Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Akbar Ayub, Riaz Khan and officials of federal and provincial governments. It was decided to hold a donors conference about foreign funded projects by the end of this month.
The chief minister during the meeting directed concerned authorities to focus on less developed areas of KP along with newly merged tribal districts under the foreign funded program. He also directed that concerned federal and provincial authorities to take steps to ensure timely completion of all ongoing development projects, and to remove the bottlenecks hindering progress on the completion of the projects.
The meeting agreed to initiate multiple projects in various sectors. The projects include KP Hydro Power and Renewable Energy, Fata Infrastructure Project, KP Education Sector Program, KP Reconstruction Program, Khyber Pass Economic Corridor, KP Integrated Tourism Project, Social Health Protection and others.
The meeting was told that 27 projects costing $2,451 million were in the pipeline. These projects include Balakot Hydro Power Development, Kurram Tangi Water Resources Project, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project, KP Rural Roads Development Project, Mohmand Hydro power project, Rural Economic Transformation Project and others. The meeting was further told that projects for construction of 5,000km farms to market roads, strengthening of irrigation system and construction of irrigation channels projects would be launched during the next two years.
It was decided that soft loans would be provided to small business owners with the aim to create employment opportunities and alleviate poverty. Several projects of clean drinking water supply would also be launched in urban and rural set ups of KP. Cities Improvement Project would be launched to ensure provision of civic facilities.
The meeting was told that the progress on the implementation of foreign funded projects in KP was better as compared other provinces.
