Drones To Keep Eye Around Polling Stations: DGP

Srinagar: Amid fears of militants disrupting the maiden District Development Council (DDC) polls scheduled to be held in Jammu and Kashmir from November 28, the Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday decided to use drones to keep a close eye in and around the polling stations.

Chairing a meeting to review the security plans and preparedness in central Kashmir for upcoming DDC polls and by-elections for Panchayats and urban local bodies (ULB), DGP Dilbagh Singh said that there was a need to be more vigilant and cautious in view of the possibility of militants attempting to disrupt the democratic process in J & K, saying that continuous attempts were being made by elements across the border to create trouble here, a police spokesperson said.

Lieutenant Governor's advisor R. R Bhatnagar was also present in the high-level meeting held at Police Control Room Kashmir on Monday.

The DGP, police spokesperson said directed the officers to devise the security plans and depute the security personnel as per the requirement besides emphasizing for making the effective use of drones to monitor the situation in and around the polls stations.

While complimenting the police personnel, central forces and intelligence agencies for achieving the highest degree of synergy and coordination in handling the internal security situation, Singh, as per police spokesperson said that forces need to continue coordinated efforts to accomplish this important task efficiently and peacefully.

'The DGP also stressed for efficient arrangements for the mobility and accommodation of forces deployed for elections. He stressed upon the officers to keep a vigil on the ground situation and ensure that people would exercise their franchise freely. He said the personnel on the ground should be briefed regularly for better results. He said that joint efforts by the stakeholders should be put in for timely action to deal with any situation,' he added.

While appreciating Police and other forces in maintaining peace, stability, and law and order in J & K, LG's Advisor, the police spokesperson said reiterated the importance of maintaining a close watch on the inimical elements and stressed the need to maintain real-time coordination between the different Security Force agencies for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

Before the Advisor and the DGP joined the meeting, the police spokesperson said detailed discussions were held by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar along with IG CRPF Ms Charu Sinha with the District SSP and CAPF commanders regarding ground situation and specific deployment requirements for conduct of the upcoming event

DIG central Kashmir, Amit Kumar, DIG CRPF South Srinagar, D.S Maan, DIG CRPF, North Srinagar Dr. D.J Singh, DIG Sector Hqr, CRPF Ashok Samyal, SSP Srinagar, Dr. M. Haseeb Mughal, SSP Budgam Nagpure Amod Ashok, SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal and Nodal commandants of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal also attended the meeting.
