Algeria names Said Chengriha as new army chief


(MENAFN) On Monday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune named Said Chengriha as army chief of staff after Ahmed Gaid Salah, 80, who passed away as a result of a heart attack earlier in the day.
Tebboune also proclaimed a three-day national mourning and one week mourning for military organizations, according to a statement by the presidential office.

Tebboune praised Gaid Salah in the statement, "senior war veteran who safeguarded the trust and fulfilled his task amid one of the most difficult periods the country has endured."
