Afghanistan- Afghan Forces Recapture 2 Strategic Areas in Maimana


(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) MAIMANA - Local officials onTuesday said Afghan forces have recaptured two strategic locations after a yearin the outskirts of Maimana, capital of northwestern Faryab province.
Abdul Karim Yourish, Faryabpolice spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News that Kata Qala and Hazara Qala areasof Maimana city were fallen to militants about a year ago but they were clearedoff militants during a joint operation today.
A Taliban official alsoconfirmed retreating from the two locations.
Kata Qala is a strategic andindustrial area located 30 kilometers southeast of Maimana city.
On the other hand, some otherlocal officials say Afghan forces had launched a joint operation for reopeningBalcheragh-Garziwan transportation road for traffic six days ago.
Yourish say 30 Talibanmilitants were killed and 14 others wounded during the operation.
A depot of ammunition and 15motorcycles belonged to the insurgents also destroyed in the battle, he said.(Pajhwok)
