3 billion liters of fuel smuggled from Iran

Around 3 billion liters of fuel was smuggled from Iran over the last three months, said Brigadier General Abdollah Hendiani, deputy chairman of Iran's Headquarters for Combating Smuggling of Commodities and Foreign Currency.

He pointed out that devaluation led to an increase in the volume of fuel smuggling in the current Iranian calendar year, which began March 21, 2018. However, fuel smuggling has dropped by 2 million liters per day as a result of the measures taken by Iran's Ministry of Petroleum and the Committee, Hindiyani told IRIB TV 1.

Fuel cards of about 150-160 migrants have been destroyed with code control, he added.

Iran has started issuing petrol rationing cards following excessive smuggling abroad of fuel made cheap by the collapse in value of the Iranian rial.

Iran presently has some of the cheapest retailed fuel in the world because the petrol price is fixed at the government rate of 0.07 euros per litre, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) is priced at 0.06 euros.
