Oman- Jury session of Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment begins

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The activities of the jury session of Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment 2018 started on Sunday in Kempinski Hotel Muscat in the presence of Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Information technology Authority (ITA).
The jury committee consists of a number of international and local experts in eGovernance who have participated in evaluating several international awards in the field.
Dr Ruzaiqi said, 'We're pleased to begin the evaluation of the competing projects participating in the sixth round of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment. It reflects in each of its round the progress made by the public sector, the private sector and SMEs in their competing projects and the level of improvement in the delivery of eServices.'
He added, 'We trust that the carefully selected jury committee will make its decisions with complete impartiality and provide detailed reports consisting of recommendations and ways for improvement for the participating projects to enhance eServices in the sultanate.' Over five days and based on set criteria, the jury committee will evaluate 64 submitted projects: 47 projects from government entities, nine from private organisations and eight from SMEs. In this edition, the awards comprise ten categories - three of which have been newly added. Two new categories - Best Open Data Initiative and Best Government Application for Smart Devices - are for government sector entities, while the third - Best Private Application for Smart Devices - is for private sector companies. Government sector entities can compete in seven categories - Best Open Data Initiative, Best Government Application for Smart Devices, Best Government eService – Individuals, Best Government Project, Best eService Supporting Business, Best Practice in Community eParticipation and Best eTransformation Achievement.
Large organisations in the private sector can compete in two categories - Best Private Application for Smart Devices and Best Private Sector eService. Private sector ICT small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can participate in Best SME eService.
The Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment started in 2010 to honour digital projects that have exceptional achievements and innovations in the use of information technology. The awards also aim to improve the quality of eServices and simplify procedures to ensure greater confidence and public contribution.
The jury session is the final phase of the evaluation process and works independently and impartially abiding by the awards' rules and guidelines. The results of the jury committee are final and not subject to change.
