(MENAFN- Arab Times) LONDON July 7 (Agencies): US singer-songwriter Ariana Grande topped Britain's singles chart on Sunday with her track 'Problem' featuring Iggy Azalea becoming the first performer to head a new look chart based on Internet streaming as well as physical sales data. The Official Charts Company said the 21-year-old singer had made history in the process notching up a combined charts sales figure of 113000 in the last week. That was made up of 106000 physical sales and 712000 audio streams it said saying it counted 100 streams as a single purchase. 'Ghost' a track by former TV talent show contestant Ella Henderson held onto the second spot it said. In the albums chart British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran held onto the top spot for a second week with his album 'X' which is pronounced as 'Multiply'.
A self-titled album by 5 Seconds of Summer took the second spot while an album by George Ezra 'Wanted on Voyage' placed third. British prog rock legends Pink Floyd are set to release a new album called 'The Endless River' in October their first for 20 years. The surprise news came in a posting on Twitter by author Polly Samson who is married to the band's guitarist David Gilmour and has previously written lyrics for the band. 'Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called 'The Endless River'. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful' Samson tweeted on Saturday. Keyboard player Wright a founder member of the band died in 2008. Pink Floyd have sold over 250 million copies of albums such as 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here' worldwide since they were founded in 1965. The new album would be the band's first release since 1994's 'The Division Bell'. The news was confirmed in a Facebook post by backing singer Durga McBroom-Hudson who has toured with the band. 'Yes. There is a new Pink Floyd album coming out. And I'm on it.
And there was much rejoicing' she wrote beneath a picture of a recording session with Gilmour. She said that recording for the album had started during sessions for 'The Division Bell' but the band had since done significantly more work on it. Pink Floyd last played a concert at the Live 8 charity show in London in 2005 but it is not clear whether they will tour to promote the new album. For all of Beyonce and Jay Z's uptempo joint hits the irresistible and catchy 'Crazy In Love' the swagger anthem 'Upgrade U' and the beatdriven 'Drunk In Love' it was the performers' emotional solo material that made their presence as a collaborative duo strong and resilient during their On the Run tour. Jay Z's reply: His confessional and emotional 2002 tune 'Song Cry.' It opens with the line: 'I can't see them coming down my eyes so I got to make the song cry.' He performed the track holding the microphone closely with both hands as he stood in place all while a video of the power couple was shown in the background. She was in a wedding dress and they rode a motorcycle and danced. She also cried began shooting someone and was hit with a bullet. And then she sang the weighty ballad about a deceitful lover 'Resentment.'
Beyonce performed the 2006 song sitting down and wearing a wedding veil. She changed the lyrics to note she's been 'riding with you for 12 years' which earned a rousing roar from the crowd. And a video followed starting with the line 'Love is an act of endless forgiveness.' The back-to-back performances full of sentiment and sensation were welcomed since Jayonce is pop's most intimate couple. In concert they seemed to lay it all out through song. Beyonce was most passionate when she sang the upbeat number 'Why Don't You Love Me.' She even grew teary-eyed after she belted some of the lyrics and paused for a minute as the crowd cheered. And cheered. And cheered. She followed that by singing Justin Timberlake's part on the hit 'Holy Grail' staring directly at Jay Z and singing the lyrics as if it were written for her. The transition from 'Why Don't You Love Me' to 'Holy Grail' was one of many that worked perfectly as the duo performed three dozen songs some in snippets for a feverish group of fans at a stadium with 40000 seats. R&B singer Tevin Campbell who thrilled fans as a teenager when he asked 'Can We Talk' has performed for the first time at the Essence Festival as he seeks to re-ignite his career. Campbell said he's 37 now but the voice that started him on his journey at age 11 is still with him. Fans heard some classics during his Saturday night set inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome where the festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Campbell said he hoped to excite old fans and cultivate new ones who may not be familiar with hits that include 'Tell Me What You Want Me To Do' and 'I'm Ready.'
'Everyone has that one song that's 'their' song and they want to hear it so we plan to accommodate them but I might throw in some new stuff too' he said. It was standing-room only with fans from the back of the room to the tip of the stage. Long lines of people waited to get in for the show but most were unable. After his set Campbell said the experience was great. 'I did all the classics none of the new material as we had planned. They wanted to hear what they wanted to hear' he said. He did two encores 'Round and Round' and 'Break it Down.' At an appearance last month in New York Campbell gave the audience a taste of one his new songs 'Addicted to Your Love' and received what he described as positive feedback. 'I mostly get asked 'Where have you been' and they'll also say I look great and sound great even though I'm all grown up' he said
