DUBAI, 21st May, 2018 (WAM) -- The Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, has hosted a consumer awareness workshop in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development, DED, in Dubai, and the Transport Activities Monitoring Department at the RTA's Public Transport Agency.

The attendees of the workshop, which took place at the RTA's headquarters, included Waleed Mohammed Nabhan, Director of Transport Activities Monitoring; Abdullah Al Meer, Director of Drivers Affairs at the Public Transport Agency; and Ahmed Al Zaabi, Director of Consumer Protection, Corporate Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection Sector of DED, as well as a host of officials from both parties.

Nabhan was delighted with the flourishing cooperation and partnership between the RTA and the DED as illustrated by this important workshop oriented towards taxi drivers. He said, "Taxi drivers form a significant cluster in Dubai, offering a service and communicating on a daily basis with broad spectrums of passengers comprising citizens, tourists and visitors descending on the Emirate from all corners of the globe.

"Consumer protection has become a strategically important mission undertaken by all government and quasi-government entities. It goes beyond the DED in Dubai to cover the cooperation of all community members with the concerned departments.

"In collaboration with the DED, the RTA will host more of these workshops for other categories of RTA employees, such as bus drivers, front-end employees at customer happiness centres and all staffers dealing with people including visitors and tourists. These employees play a vital role in protecting consumers and raising the consumer awareness of individuals and the community."

Ahmed Al Zaabi added, "We thank the RTA for hosting the team and holding this induction workshop, which forms part of our efforts to reach out to the broadest possible segment of the community. Undoubtedly, taxi drivers are part of the priorities of the Corporate Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection Sector of the DED.

"Taxi drivers directly engage with passengers, of whom tourists form a big chunk. The workshop aimed at offering guidelines and key points of concern to consumers. Taxi drivers are capable of familiarising passengers with consumer rights and of providing the contact details of the Consumer Protection division. In doing so, they contribute to the enhancement of transparency and neutrality between the trader and consumer."
