(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the Sharjah Charity International (SCI) is flooded with contributions for the poor.
The SCI has received Dh26.5 million in donations to support the needy and poor people of all nationalities during Ramadan as part of the an initiative titled 'Jude' or 'Generosity'.
Addressing a Press conference held on the SCI premises on Wednesday, Abdullah Mubarak Al Dukhan, secretary-general of the SCI, said that this amount will cover expenses of coupons for food items, Iftar meals and Eid clothes to be offered in 147 Iftar tents, which includes 60 tents n Sharjah, and the rest in Al Dhaid, Al Madame, Kalba, Khor Fakkan and Dibba Al Hosn.
The charity also allocated ?Dh2million for the food coupons and Dh15million for free Iftars. Free Iftar meals worth Dh400,000 will be distributed in 51 foreign countries. It has also earmarked Dh7 million for Zakat and Dh1.1million for Eid clothing for poor families.
The free Iftar initiative for fasting Muslims outside the country is considered one of the big projects of the SCI.
Al Dukhan added that the SCI has decided to double the size of its projects during the current year to mark the Year of Zayed.
"The success of the SCI projects depends on the confidence of people of good deeds and donors and their support for their projects and ongoing initiatives throughout the year."
The SCI, a humanitarian arm of the Sharjah Government, has made great achievements with the help of its cooperative teams and donors in volunteering initiatives.
