Kuwait- 'No announcers terminated'


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, March 18: Undersecretary of Ministry of Information Tariq Al-Mezrem affirmed that none of the announcers at the Ministry of Information has been suspended from work, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Regarding the appointment of Kuwaiti announcers based on wages from outside the ministry, he stressed that the ministry benefits from their experience and that they are hired for the specialized programs. In response to a question presented by MP Saleh Al-Ashour, Al-Mezrem explained that the number of non-Kuwaiti announcers working on the basis of wages is 87.

They include six in the news sector and for political Arab and foreign programs, 37 in foreign broadcasting sector and nine for TV programs. He affirmed the commitment of the ministry to implement the Kuwaitization policy in the public sector as stated in Law No. 13/2017.

Al-Mezrem explained that the number of Kuwaiti employees in the ministry increased to 6,937 by the end of 2016. This means Kuwaitis constitute 68 percent of the total workforce. On the other hand, the number of expatriates working on daily wages is 311, constituting four percent of the total workforce. In addition, there are 884 expatriate employees working on temporary contracts which are renewed only after consulting the Civil Service Commission. These employees constitute ten percent of the total workforce
