(MENAFN) The United States has imposed upon the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) what President Trump deemed as the "heaviest sanctions", following mounting tensions.
During a speech delivered to a conservative activist group in Maryland, the President declared "we imposed today the heaviest sanctions ever imposed on a country before."
Senior officials from the Trump administration have explained the sanctions to be imposed on 56 vessels, shipping companies and trade businesses.
The US Department of Treasury also explained in its statement the penalty to target one individual, 28 shops and 27 companies.
