Pakistan- Senate adopts resolution to hold 2018 General Elections as per previous delimitations in FATA

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR, 19 February: The Senate on Monday adopted a resolution demanding a halt to the process of delimitations of constituencies in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

The mover of the resolution Sajjad Tori said that the next 2018 general elections should be held as per previous delimitations in Fata.

Senators from the Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) and Muttahid Quomi Movement (MQM) also supported the resolution.

The resolution stated that the population of Fata in the recently held Census has been shown very low and the displaced tribesmen had not been counted in the process.

Senators from other political parties while supporting the resolution, urged the government to stop the delimitation process till the reservations of the tribal senator are addressed.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad while opposing the resolution said that no change would be made in the National Assembly's constituencies in Fata during the delimitation process. He informed the house that the federal cabinet has decided to maintain the status quo as far as Fata's seats are concerned.
