Hekmatyar links peace to refugees repatriation

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) supreme leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar has called on the government to repatriate refugees, embrace armed opponents, end internal power struggle and seek solution to the existing crisis through elections.

Hekmatyar said fighting was not an option to address the ongoing crisis. €œThe Afghan war is not winnable for either side and solution to the current miseries is end to the fighting,€ Hekmatyar told a gathering marking the 29th anniversary of Soviet Union forces withdrawal from Afghanistan.

€œOne lesson from the Soviet Union occupation of Afghanistan was that no force on the earth can occupy Afghanistan forever, they can topple and change governments but permanent occupation of Afghanistan is not possible for anyone.€

He told the Taliban: €œYou cannot win this war, if you think you will come again and overrun Kabul, you are mistaken. Every party should acknowledge this fact. Come and choose the path of reconciliation like our party.€

Hekamtyar also asked the government to open its hug for armed opponents. €œAll factors that keep the war going should be eradicated. €œ

The HIA leader stressed on repatriation of Afghan refugees and said peace might not be achieved until the question of eight million refugees was solved. He urged the government to take onboard all stakeholders about future elections and their monitoring.
