ICC appoints Indra Nooyi as its first independent female director

In one of the biggest developments in the world of cricket, the ICC has announced that Indra Nooyi, the current chairman of PepsiCo, has been appointed as the first independent female director of the board.

The unanimous confirmation of her appointment was taken on Friday and the 62-year old will join the cricket body in June 2018.

Nooyi appointed for a two year term

Nooyi, who has been ranked as one of the world's most powerful women, will be appointed for a 2-year term.

However, her tenure could be further extended for two terms. The maximum tenure of an independent director can be six consecutive years of service.

ICC was keen to introduce a female independent-director, which came as a ruling in the constitutional change in June 2017.

Indra Nooyi, an Indian-American business executive, is the current Chairwoman and CEO of PepsiCo.

PepsiCo is the second largest food and beverage business in the world by revenues.

She was the brain behind the acquisition of Tropicana and a USD 14 billion dollar take over of Quaker Oats.

She has been the CEO of PepsiCo since October 2006
