Nearly 40 insurgents killed in past 24 hours: MoD


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Nearly 40 insurgents have been killed during security operations in various parts of the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Defense said on Friday.

Another eight militants were wounded and a dozen others captured alive during the joint operations in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Ghazni, Khost, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Paktika, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Faryab, Baghlan, Farah, Nimroz and Helmand province, a MoD statement said.

The statement claimed the dead Taliban included four members of the Quetta Council and as many regional commanders.

The four regional Taliban commanders were among 30 insurgents killed in the operation in Khwaja Sabz Posh district of Faryab province, the release said, adding the four Quetta Council members were killed in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province.

It identified the slain Quetta Shura members as Mualvi Bacha, Mualvi Baqi, Haji Adam Khan and Haji Nasro.

Five Taliban were killed in Waza Khwa district of southeastern Paktika province and their two motorcycles and some weapons were confiscated. Four militants were killed in Helmand€™s Nad Ali district and three in Farah€™s Bala Buluk district and seven others wounded.

Two militants were killed in Syedabad district of Maidan Wardak and one Daesh gunmen was killed in Kunar€™s Watapur district and a second wounded.

A dozen suspected militants were arrested during an operation in the Dilaram district of Nimroz province. The security forces also seized one bike and some explosives and weapons from the detainees.
