Qatar- Inter community beach volleyball festival attracts expats

Tunisia bagged Apparel Challengers Cup in 1st Inter community Beach Volleyball Festival organised by Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) and Indian Sports Centre during this weekend at Al Gharafa Sports club.

Sudan became the Runners-Up while Egypt came in 3rd Position of this tournament where 30 teams from 14 Countries had participated.

Besides the league matches played by various country teams in 10 pools , the 4 quarter finals were played between Sudan vs Morocco, Tunisia vs Senegal, Egypt vs Nepal and Egypt vs Sri Lanka.

The two semifinals were played between Tunisia Vs Egypt and Sudan vs Nepal.

The 3rd position selection match was played between Egypt and Nepal where Egypt won.

More than 200 beach Volleyball players from various expatriate communities of 14 countries such as Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Nepal, Ghana, Philippines, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sudan, India, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Senegal and Qatar participated in this 2-day mega event.

A grand inaugural ceremony of the Inter Community Beach Volleyball Festival was held on January 11 in the presence of Ambassadors of India, Nepal, Affairs of Sri Lanka , Diplomats from Morocco, India and Bangladesh Embassy, Qatar Volleyball Association President and other senior officials.

All 14 countries participating players lead by bands from Birla Public School did a spectacular march followed by cultural shows by Indian and Ghanian community members.

Nilangshu Dey, President of Indian Sports Centre welcomed the large gathering and highlighted that this event has created strong ties between Qatar Volleyball Association and all expatriate communities in promoting Volleyball in Qatar.

QVA President, Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari appreciated the initiation taken by Indian Sports Centre in bringing various expatriate communities in this beach volleyball tournament and thanked all for their support in making this tournament a success.

P Kumaran Ambassador of India to Qatar thanked QVA and Indian sports Centre for this new initiative to bring all expat communities together.

He highlighted the excellent performance of the Indian Sports Centre in promoting various sports among the Indian community as well as other expatriates.
