Peta to end animal mistreatment in Petra

(MENAFN) Peta, which is an animal rights group, has started an international campaign to try to finish the harm done to working animals in the ancient city of Petra in Jordan.

Peta says that donkeys haul tourists up 900 steep and eroded steps to the Monastery, enduring lack of food and water in the way.

Also, horses and camels are beaten and forced to carry visitors in extreme heat without shade or water, even some of them, pulls carriages and carts.

Although Petra is the crown jewel of the Jordanian tourist industry, but concerns remain about the treatment of the more than 1,300 working animals there.
