Political parties in North urged not to promote LTTE at polls

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) /wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Keerthi.jpg">Political parties in the North have been urged not to promote the LTTE while campaigning for the Local Government (LG) election.

The Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) said that there have been reports pro-LTTE songs are being played at events held in support of some political parties in the North.

The Executive Director of the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections, Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon said that some candidates in the North are also promoting extremism.

Tennakoon said that playing songs promoting the LTTE is not only a violation of election laws but also violates the law of the country.

"We urge political parties and independent candidates to respect election laws and national laws when campaigning for the LG polls," Tennakoon said in Jaffna today.

Tennakoon said that all communities must work together and candidates must promote that as opposed to promoting divisions among communities. (Colombo Gazette)
