Japan pursue to toughen defense relations with Britain

(MENAFN) A top British academic announced Friday that stronger relations with the UK had been on the work by Japan amid concerns over the US Trump administration to provide the Asia-Pacific region with an inferior priority.

Xinhua has been informed by the Japanese expert at Oxford University Professor Ian Neary that Britain and Japan signed Thursday a three-year defense cooperation plan signed which provides the interests of both sides.

Professor Neary explained "there is a feeling in Japan that the present U.S. administration, and possibly future ones, do not and will not give the Asia Pacific region priority. Meanwhile the UK is reassessing its options as it goes through the process of leaving the European Union (EU). Thus this agreement serves the interests of both sides."
