Ashes: Steve Smith calmly leads Australia back into contest

After the domination of England on Day 1 of 3rd Ashes Test, Australia were able to put an end to the visitors' innings on Day 2 at 403, undoubtedly a good score.
Aussie skipper Steve Smith, however, led the home side back into contest, with his calm and controlled knock of an unbeaten 92.

England began their day 2 innings at a strong 305/4 and carried on the momentum which brought in a ton for Jonny Bairstow (119).
Bairstow and Dawid Malan registered a 237-run partnership, England's biggest ever Ashes stand.
After Malan got out, the lower order collapsed quickly. England lost their last 6 wickets for 35 runs to go from 368/4 to 403 all out.

Bairstow cheekily celebrated his first Ashes ton with a 'headbutt' on his helmet, referencing the allegation made by Australia's Cameron Bancroft that the Englishman did the same to him at the beginning of Ashes tour.

Chasing an imposing total of 403, Australian side lost their openers David Warner and Bancroft early on to Craig Overton's fine bowling.
Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja shared a 124-run partnership for the third wicket in response before Khawaja got out at 50.
Smith's composed innings helped Australia to end the day at 203/3, giving them a chance to come back into the game.
