Video: British singers sing famous Urdu songs in Dubai street


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A video clip of British singer Tanya Wells and her twin sister soulfully singing "Dumma Dum Mast Qalandar" on the streets of Dubai has gone viral.

A tweet sharing the clip of the duo singing by this KT reporter has been retweeted 1,300 times and liked over 2,100 times with over 12,000 views and is still going strong.

The clip shows the sisters singing in the streets of Dubai, thought it is not clear where exactly and when, while a guitarist is playing along to their tune. Spectators on the road are seen singing along with the sisters, who are oblivious to the gathering crowd and are fully enjoying their crooning.

"Listen to some good music for a break! You deserve a break!," wrote @varmahgold.

Tanya's rendition of ghazal virtuoso Mehdi Hassan's 'Duniya Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein' while playing the guitar on YouTube is part of what makes her singing even more soulful and mesmerising. She has also sang Shahanshah-e-Ghazal Mehdi Hassan's 'Rafta Rafta Woh Meri Hasti' to the 'King of Qawwali' Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Man Kunto Maula' to Nayyara Noor's 'Ae Ishq Humain Barbad Na Kar' to a mash up of Blackstreet's 'No Diggity' and 'Dam Mast Qalander'.

She sang each and every composition not only melodiously, but with great involvement and left everyone spellbound with her versatility.

According to details on her page TanyaWells.com, Tanya has recently been involved in a number of live performances, including a guest appearance with Natacha Atlas at Ronnie Scott's, performing vocals for Anoushka Shankar at the Cannes Film Festival, and opening for Joss Stone, Nitin Sawhney and Nicki Wells (her twin) at Mama Stones.

Tanya lived in India for over three years, attending school in the foothills of the Himalayas. She later returned to study Indian classical music (including light classical, thumri, bhajan and ghazal) and has performed original material in a number of clubs and festivals on the Indian subcontinent.

She has recently formed her band Seven Eyes which include Paulo Vinicius on guitar and a host of other musicians worldwide. Seven Eyes' philosophy is to build bridges with music. Tanya lives and works between the UK and Brazil, performing worldwide her band Seven Eyes.
