(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat - The Arab League's General Secretariat hailed Morocco's commitment to the Jerusalem issue under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, also the chairman of Al Quds Committee. The General Secretariat of the Arab body noted in a document issued December 10 on the developments related to the US President's decision to recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel that King Mohammed VI sent a message to Trump, emphasizing that the city is at the heart of final status issues, which requires the preservation of its legal status. In the same message, the King affirmed that any measures to alter the legal and historical status of the holy city may have a negative impact on prospects for achieving a just, comprehensive settlement of the long-decades conflict between Palestine and Israel. In his message, the King called on Guterres to stop Trump from making this bold decision which he said would undermine peace in the region. The Arab League General Secretariat also recalled Morocco's move to summon Stephanie Miley, the Charge d'affaires of the US embassy, and ambassadors of Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom in Rabat. During the meeting, which was chaired by Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the King's letter was handed formally to Miley. Bourita also recalled Morocco's full support to the Palestinian cause and to Palestinian people during the meeting. On December 9, Riyad-Al-Maliki, Palestine's Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude over Morocco's stance at the Arab League emergency meeting held in Cairo following Trump's decision. He also thanked international countries, who stand against Trump's move, citing Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, and Tunisia. Foreign ministers at the Arab League held an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss Trump's decision, which undermines the legal and historical status of Al Quds, said the Palestinian delegation in a document addressed to the league of Arab states. Morocco was represented by Bourita and Ahmed Tazi, Morocco's ambassador to Cairo and permanent representative to the Arab League. Following the Arab League meeting, Bourita called on the members of the emergency gathering to "undertake intense and pragmatic actions to face the American decision regarding Jerusalem's status, and use all the diplomatic and legal means available to us to defend our rights."
