Rage in France over proposal to ban smoking in films
(MENAFN)In a land raised on images of puffing, pouting silver-screen stars in French films, a proposal to ban smoking in French films has been met with fury and rage.
A senator from the opposition Socialist Party, Nadine Grelet-Certenais came up with the idea last week, during a parliamentary debate that discussed ways to stop the French from smoking.
The senator accused filmmakers of showing smoking as a positive thing, after a study showed that 70 per cent of new French films show at least one character lighting up.
"It trivializes and even promotes smoking, particularly among children and teenagers who are the biggest consumers of these films on the internet." she said.
