Qatar- Paper recycling programme launched

To mark Sustainability Week 2017, Al Wakrah Municipality and the French Embassy have launched paper recycling programme.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by Al Wakrah Municipality, French Embassy and Qatar Green Building Council held a joint press conference on celebrating sustainability week at Al Wakrah City yesterday at French Embassy. A weeklong event will be organised by Al Wakrah Municipality in collaboration with its partners from October 28 to November 4.
The move came under the line of the announcement about the membership of Al Wakrah for the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, said a statement. The press conference was attended by Eric Chevallier, French Ambassador to Qatar; Mansour Ajran Mansour Al Buainain, Director of Al Wakrah Municipality; Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti, Secretary-General of the Qatar National Committee for Education Culture and Science; Dr. Robert from the College North Atlantic; and Abdullah Ibrahim Al Suwaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Elite Paper Recycling Company.
The French Ambassador expressed his pleasure to participate in this programme, especially with the upcoming anniversary of the signing of the Paris Declaration on Climate Change, praising the efforts of Qatar in the success of this global agreement.
He added that the efforts of Al Wakrah Municipality in the area of sustainability are clear and capable, pointing to his recent participation in the cleaning of Al Wakrah Beach, expressing his desire and willingness of the Embassy to participate and support any environmental activities in this regard.
Director of Al Wakrah Municipality, expressed his thanks and gratitude to all the representatives of the participating parties in the second edition of the Sustainability Week for their tangible and effective efforts, which contributed in Al Wakrah receiving a permanent membership UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
Al Buainain said that the doors of participation are open to all those who have the desire and ambition of individuals and institutions to promote sustainability concepts and environmental protection culture to join Wakra Municipality in completing its march towards this noble goal.
Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti praised the idea of Sustainability Week, which supports the efforts of Qatar and Al Wakra Municipality to receive the Cities of Learning Award for this year through implementing various environmental programs in collaboration with different segments of society in various fields.
Al Wakrah Municipality signed an agreement with the Qatar Green Building Council about sustainable development. The agreement allows the Municipality to be a strategic partner to spread knowledge and raise awareness about sustainability in the urban environment, as well as educating the public, providing training and exchanging technical support.
The agreement also aims at carrying out research for the benefit of all parties interested in promoting sustainability in the urban environment in the country, in addition to enhancing ways to preserve the environment and achieve sustainable development in cooperation with various government institutions and social organizations. The Sustainability Week program includes a number of environmental and educational events for school students, especially in the areas of waste recycling, green sustainability, renewable energy, winter plantation, lectures and workshops on sustainable development and cleaning of Al Wakrah Beach.
