Hanoi, Dhu-AlHijjah 13, 1438, Sep 4, 2017, SPA -- Two people, including an 8-month-old baby, have been killed and seven seriously injured in a landslide triggered by heavy rain in northern Vietnam, authorities said Monday.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Tram Tau district of Yen Bai province as mud and rocks from a mountainside fell on people walking on the road below, the country's committee for disaster prevention said in a report Monday.
The baby's mother was among the seriously injured, according to Tram Tau authorities. The injured were being treated at Nghia Lo district hospital.
Vietnam's northern provinces, where more than 40 people were killed last month following flash floods, have received rainfall of up to 128 millimeters in the past 24 hours.
Local authorities have warned that more floods and landslides are likely this week due to heavy rains, dpa reported.
