50 school students poisoned in Kabul


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Education (MoE) on Sunday said 50 school students were poisoned in the third education district of the capital Kabul.

The students were poisoned during a program titled Supporting Education in Kabul city this morning around 9:30am, the MoE spokesman, Mohammad Kabir Haqmal told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the affected students were evacuated to Istiqlal Hospital for treatment. He added 25 of the students were still under treatment while the rest of others had been discharged after receiving initial treatments.

Haqmal said the students were poisoned by pesticides sprayed on trees in the school compound. But Dad Mohammad, nursing manager of Istiqlal Hospital, said 38 schoolgirls poisoned were shifted to the hospital.

The school girls were suffering from dizziness but most of them discharged after receiving initial treatment, he said.

He did not provide information about the cause of the poisoning but said investigation into the issue was underway.
