Mother's Day in the UAE falls on March 21 and people all over the country make the most of the day by gifting flowers, cards and jewellery, visiting restaurants or giving a holiday surprise to their mums. CapitalBuzz speaks to Abu Dhabi residents who get candid and express their gratitude towards their mothers.
Jasmine D'souza My mother has sacrificed a lot in many ways, even giving up small things such as ice cream for us to enjoy. When I was very sick seven years ago, she helped me a lot and nursed me back to health. My mum is always the first to wake up and last to sleep. Even if we fail in something, she considered us the best. She has supported my older brother and me a lot. There are not enough words to describe the love of a mother. Our mum's happiness is our happiness.
Padmanabha Acharya A mother's love is a feeling that universally bonds us. We are very lucky that my mother will be here in Abu Dhabi during Mother's Day. I am planning to take her out to a nice restaurant and have Indian food with my children and wife and spend a good evening out. I also want to pamper and treat her to a spa session and make her feel special. She has given a lot to us and guided us over the years, and I want to take this opportunity to say thank you.
Diana Lobo We have been in the UAE for a very long time. My parents moved to Abu Dhabi in 1958 and have seen the city develop in front of their eyes. My mother is very brave, loving and caring. She is just one-of-a-kind. My friends who live far away from home look at my mum as their own mother. We are six siblings, of which three of us live here. We plan to take her out on this very special occasion.

Being a single woman and living away from my mother is tough. While I'm here in Abu Dhabi, I miss my mother each and every day. When I first planned to move from India to Abu Dhabi, my mother burst into tears. I still can't forget the moment when my mother was not able to hold back tears during my departure. All the love and care she has given me were visible in her eyes. I was not able to control myself from crying either. The love and care of a mother is priceless.
Mother's Day is a time to honour and respect them with love and care. I have a special plan for this day; I am planning to surprise my mother with gifts and a long video chat with her on this special day, as I can't be with her in person. I will also let her know of my next visit to India.
As a teacher, this day will be an exciting one for me at school. Even though I am far away from my mother, my students will take the loneliness away. Mother's Day with them will be a special day.
