RAF provides QR470m in aid to Syrian war victims


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has provided about QR470m to support internally-displaced Syrians and refugees sheltering in neighbouring countries since the beginning of the war.
The money was spent on 458 development projects and also on humanitarian aid to help Syrian citizens battling for survival.
The projects were related to relief, development, health, education, sponsorship of orphans, and poor families. They were implemented inside Syria and neighbouring countries like Jordon, Lebanon and Turkey.
RAF implemented the highest number of projects (248) worth over QR219m in Syria for internally displaced people. Syrian refugees in Turkey received 64 projects worth over QR154m. Jordan and Lebanon got more than QR50m and QR44m to implement 57 and 89 projects respectively for Syrian refugees living there.
RAF implemented 187 relief projects at a cost of QR234m. Millions of Syrian refugees and those displaced inside benefitted from the projects, said a statement.
To alleviate the suffering of people in Syria, RAF provided shelters in safe zones inside the country. RAF also built several villages and provided thousands of caravans to neighbouring countries accommodating Syrian refugees.
Weaker sections of the communities like orphans, widows and other poor people were given priorities in the projects implemented by RAF.
Such projects include 'RAF orphan city, 'Al Mahmoud orphanage, 'orphans buildings in Jordan, among other development projects for medical services and general services to improve the life of the beneficiaries.
RAF provided educational facilities to thousands of Syrian students who discontinued their education due to the war. Several educational projects were implemented for students of all grades.
The beneficiary students received school bags, text books and other necessary stationery. They were provided teachers.
RAF's support to millions of needy Syrian people will continue with the help of generous philanthropists from Qatar.
