UAE- 10,000 fake items confiscated from Ajman warehouse


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Ajman Economic Development Department (AEDD) shut down a warehouse in Al Jurf area on Monday after seizing 10,000 duplicate products of various brands. The counterfeit products included clothes, ladies bags, cosmetics, perfumes, shoes, watches and mobile phone accessories.

Mohammed Al Kuttabi, Director of consumer protection at the department, said that the AEDD has intensified inspections following massive number of complaints from the public.

The inspectors, during the campaign targeting traders, warehouses and manufacturers, realised that counterfeits of many major brands are available in the local markets.

The outlets caught selling the fake products are fined Dh5,000 to Dh15,000, based on the seriousness of the cases.

Urging support from the public, Khalid Al Hosani, Executive Director of Public Health and Environment at the Ajman Municipality said: "If the consumers keep buying the fake products, the manufactures will continue to dupe them."

Majid Al Saeed, Director of Inspection Department at the Ajman Port and Customs, said: "Our role is taking all measures to prevent the entry of any counterfeit products into the country. We are currently using advanced devices that can inspect 60 containers in an hour and identify 250 colours accurately."

Brigadier Sultan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ajman Police, said that the "police e would also investigate cases of counterfeit activities if alerted by consumers or other sources."
