(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A passionate team armed with lyrics that radiate nothing but phrases of revolution, pain, the unbreakable human spirit and ambition can be heard performing at various restaurants and social gatherings in the sultanate.
emdad bachchu, the lead singer said, 'bayanna means 52 in bengali and it was the year in february 21, 1952 when bangladesh fought for her independence from pakistan. we fought for the bengali language; bangladesh is the only country in the world that fought for language. language is the epitome of the culture of a country and we are proud to have started our freedom movement through language.' bachchu added that though the name of the band is bayanna, the band sings songs in various other languages too. 'we are artists and we understand that music has no barrier because after-all every human emotion is universal. though our band composes and sings mainly in bengali, we also sing in hindi, arabic and english.' the band was launched in july 2016 officially through its debut at the the chittagong shomiti in barkha on february 21, in front of 3000 people. ever since then the band has been a favourite at parties and social gatherings where they can be heard singing bengali songs in genres like jazz, blues, country, punk and hip-hop. they also sing popular numbers from hindi movies, the beatles, scorpions, guns and roses, john denver and elvis presley. mohammed roman, the drummer and bassist on the team said, 'normally our songs are contemporary or jibon mukhi as we call them in bengali which mirrors the real life of people in this present world. we sing of social order, nature, environment and anything that inspires us. normally we ourselves write the songs and everyone is welcome to pitch in their respective ideas. life is our inspiration and the songs transcend all barriers of religion, creed and nationality.' he added that because the band is still in a nascent stage right now, they prefer to sing popular bengali songs along with some of the band's exclusive ones. anwar hossain mohammad raju, the lead guitarist and vocal of the team added, 'music has always been my passion since childhood though i wanted to be a drummer. i have always adored guitarists like ayub bachchu, partha barua, ershad, jimmy hendrix and jim morrison. though i learnt to play the guitar at a young age, the learning process continues till date. it is a privilege for me to come up with like minded artists in a foreign land and renew both our love for art and our motherland through songs.' all the members are full time professionals and work in private companies and some run their own businesses. after the day job, they meet up to jam and brain-storm on the lyrics. on thursdays they meet at a garage turned studio with the basic setup to record their new tune. the action starts from 12pm and goes on till 6am. the band plans to come up with their new album by next year which also has a tribute to his majesty the sultan and people of oman. mamunur rashid rumee, lead guitarist and vocals added, 'we sing in every scale through gmajor, progression of g-major, c-major, d-major and a-minor is my favourite. 'we also go down to minor and low scales as per the demand or emotion of the song. there have been many challenges in our band and we faced it with poise and understanding. once our drums were not working and we created one on the spot with our diy tactics.'
