Qatar- Mubadara 2016 honours student entrepreneurs


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: In an attempt to boost the spirit of entrepreneurship among the youth here, Injaz Qatar recently marked the conclusion of its annual Mubadara — the young entrepreneurs"; competition.
Mubadara 2016 honoured top scoring student entrepreneurs from schools and universities here at an awards ceremony at Qatar National Convention Centre on Sunday.
Tatreez, a business project focusing on sewn university bags put forth by Qatar University (QU), won the Best Company of the Year award, which was sponsored by ExxonMobil. In the schools category, Dose, a unique medicine remainder project, from Al Kawthar Independent Secondary school for Girls, won the same award.
The Most Innovative product/service Award, sponsored by Commercial Bank, was won by Najah from QU and Friokish from Rabaa Al Adawiya School for Girls. The Best Marketing Plan Award was won by SSO from Al Risala independent school for Girls and Tefareeh from QU. Soom from Georgetown and Texas A & M universities, and Once Upon a Time from Al Shaima";a Independent School for Girls received the Best Social Impact Award in university and high school track respectively.
From this year, groups in both the categories competed for the People";s Choice Award, sponsored by Entrepreneurs"; Organization. A";Dawar from Qatar University bagged the award, based on the highest number of votes and likes made by the public through Injaz Qatar Instagram page.
Mubadara 2016 is a competition for student enterprises established through Junior Achievement";s globally recognised 'Company Programme”. Student teams were offered the opportunity to establish and run a real business over few months with the guidance of professionals from leading businesses across Qatar.
'Students are able to learn all aspects of business through our Companies programme. The dedication, creativity, teamwork and developing business acumen seen in this year";s categories has been exceptional. We hope to expand the programme to include more youth from primary classes to university level and through youth centres,” said Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser bin Khaled Al Thani, Chairperson, Injaz Qatar.
Both winning teams of the Best Student Company Award from university and high school categories will now represent Qatar at the Regional Injaz Al-Arab Young Enterprise of the Year Competition in Bahrain in November 2016 to compete against other teams from 14 different countries in the MENA region.
The best company award winner from Qatar University was also awarded seed funding of QR35,000 from Boeing to help support their enterprise in addition to ongoing support and Incubation Award by QBIC (Qatar Business Incubation Center).
